ARLA could beat to a different drum under new President

The new President of ARLA is a former professional drummer – and, it appears, something of a rebel.

Peter Savage, who was a session musician for 13 years, got into the property business while living in Spain.

When he returned to the UK in 1990, he recalls his first day at work with an agent in Islington, London.

“I was given a desk, a phone, a list of properties, and a bunch of cards with prospective tenants’ names and numbers on. No computers, no mobiles, no email,” he says.

The full interview – in which Savage says that he personally would not use an online agent and calls for full regulation of the industry – follows.

Would be good for the industry if Savage enforced existing regulations amongst owners of expensive window stickers BEFORE advocating the introduction of yet more regulation
