Company calling itself ‘Zoopla Property’ is ordered to change its name within a month

A company called Zoopla Property Limited has been ordered to change its name after objections from ZPG.

Zoopla Property Limited, based in Birmingham, was incorporated in August last year and on Companies House describes its nature of business as residents’ property management.

Its director is Kamran Bashir, with another director – I&V A UK Limited – having resigned in July this year.

This week, the Company Names Tribunal issued its decision after what was then Zoopla Property Group – it changed its name to ZPG in February this year –  filed an application last December, saying that under the Companies Act, the sound-alike company should change its name.

The case was slow to get off the ground,  with initial correspondence being returned, and Bashir then mounting a defence but not using the form he had been told to, nor paying the mandatory fee.

Last week, on August 30, a hearing was held by telephone conference.

The tribunal has wasted little time in ordering that Zoopla Property Limited changes its name within a month.

The tribunal also ordered Zoopla Property Limited, Kamran Bashir and I&V A UK Limited to pay ZPG £1,000 within seven days.

Last night, a ZPG spokesperson said: “This was a company not associated with us in any way that has been infringing on our name and trademark which has now been ordered to stop doing so and to change their name accordingly.”

I can only assume Kamran, hit the dislike button, or the person who just registered rightmovedirect.co.uk as a web domain! (joking…. sure nobody would waste their time on that)

What a bunch of fools. Zoopla isn’t even an actual word, so to use it as they have is beyond blatant copying.
