How they can charge the best part of 14k for a qualification baffles me.

You can become a fully qualified financial adviser for under a thousand.

    Daylight robbery.

You are right that the Diploma is around £14k, which includes VAT.  We are training and qualifying people in a vocational way to become professional surveyors and valuers – able to join the RICS straightaway at Associate level, and go out and do valuations for lenders or condition surveys for home buyers as soon as they’ve qualified.  The Diploma is Level 6 – the equivalent to a degree – and there is a lot of learning involved, and a lot of assessment too to ensure learners can apply the knowledge correctly.  So compared to going away to university for 3 years, we believe that this vocational diploma is good value for money. We run open events and careers day so that potential learners can be really sure that a) they really want to be a surveyor, and b) that they realise that the Diploma requires a lot of dedication and hard work – it’s not a walk in the park.  We think £14k to be a professional surveyor is a good investment, but accept that like a lot of things, it’s not for everyone.  Austin Baggett, Managing Director, Sava

      Thanks for the reply.

I am sure you do see it as a good investment as you profit incredibly well from it. I think University fees are disgusting and the fact anybody charges for education is madness.

I see education as a right not a business. Its elitism at its finest.

I have a member of staff who would like to qualify as a surveyor, would also be of benefit to my business but 14k is far too big a punt. Look at all the DEA’s who signed up to get ‘Qualified’ and if they are lucky (most left the industry) scratching about for the odd fifty quid.

If you can be qualified as a financial adviser or stock broker for a fraction of a cost it shows the mark up for universities and providers.

Still, i wish you luck in selling “The Dream” to a number of punters on your open day.
