Heartbreak as brave and inspirational Claire Grant finally loses her fight

Claire Grant, the inspirational wife of Peter Grant who founded industry software supplier VTUK, has died after a very long battle with cancer.

Claire, well known to many in the industry, suffered from the rare Triple Negative breast cancer.

Her courage and positivity was remarkable as she sought out different treatments, including alternative treatments and those not available in the UK.

Always knowing her illness was terminal, the blog she started in July 2012 was kept up for over five years.

She was determined to make Triple Negative a positive and was unafraid to make her battle public, believing that knowledge “gives us all strength”.

Her last entry in her blog was in August. The news she gave in it was awful – she had had a bad fall, and there were tumours in her brain – but she delivered her update with wit, warmth, clarity and total lack of self pity. She also paid tribute to the unwavering support and love of her husband. There was no indication she would not be writing again.

But this week on Wednesday night, Peter posted up on Facebook: “At 15.30 this afternoon, the light in my life, my best friend and my wife, took her last breath in my arms.”

Claire looked, he wrote “as ever, so incredibly beautiful as she sighed and left my world. In the end the burden of the disease just became too much, even for her to carry.

“We lived, we lived every single day and moment . . . and we filled those moments with love.”

My own abiding memory of Claire is seeing her at an Agents Giving ball. Treatment had robbed her of her hair, and she wore no wig. But she was dressed to the nines and I don’t think I ever saw anyone look more beautiful.

Our deepest condolences to Peter and the family, her friends, and colleagues at VTUK. Anyone who would like to pay tribute to Claire is welcome to do so.

    Absolutely tragic news

She was a beautiful lady and the room always lightened as she came into it.

Not that it can make any difference at a time like this but my heart goes out to you Peter at this impossible time.
