Kevin Hollinrake, co-founder of estate agents Hunters, has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Michael Gove.
He said he hopes to use his new role to represent the interests of “our excellent farmers, fishermen, food producers, rural businesses and residents, and the countryside and environment generally”.
Hollinrake has been the Tory MP for the predominantly rural constituency of Thirsk and Malton in North Yorkshire since 2015.
We congratulate him on his new role.
Congratulations Kevin….. but for the opportunity presented one has to question the process?
“Kevin, you have all the qualities we are looking for in a PPS, what is you area of expertise?
“Housing and property”
“Ah wonderful! There’s none of that really in the brief but a synonym search on the word ‘residents’ suggests you’re our man. Welcome aboard!

Sorry Robert but I think thats a bit harsh. Since when have MP’s taken parliamentry jobs based on previous experience?
Kevin’s seat is in fact covers a few rural communities but that aside, those that have met Kevin know him to be a very bright chap and to have him involved shaping government policy, in whatever department should be welcomed.
I am sure that this is the first step on what will be a great political career…….provided he does it within the next 5 years of course!
Perhaps we can just leave it at Congratulations!

Forgive me, I am commenting on the lunacy of a system that ignores talent and experience in the style of ‘Yes Miniister’ not having a go at Kevin
Perhaps that was too subtle or you are too young to appreciate the reference.
Possibly it’s offensive to point out the daftness of having a NIMBY accountant looking after Housing when there is someone better qualified to do the job, Whatever it is, I wasn’t being disrespectful to Kevin.
I have very little regard for our governance having witnessed first hand how broken the system is in respect to housing and our industry. The people who can make a difference aren’t allowed to.

I remember my parents talking about that programme…….joking.
I realised you were were referring to Yes Minister and dont get me wrong I agree that politically there is a stark choice right now for our industry. However, having someone who at least sympathises with the issues surrounding us, climbing the political ladder, has to be a good thing.

Seems to me policy is being dictated by the juniour staff in the civil service. Base the roles somewhere affordable where their salaries aren’t trying to compete with City salries and bonuses and I believe half the nonsense that is being applied to our industry wouldn’t exist. Housing policy all seems to revolve about the woes of generation rent.
What sort of bonkerness requires anyone to work in a job they aren’t best suited for in order to wait till they might be an MP when they are time served enough to have climbed the ladder. Good job airlines don’t run that system!

Why are you surprised by his selection…look who his boss is, Michael Gove…disgraced education secretary and urban dweller now in charge of DEFRA, farming and the environment. Their job descriptions and suitability should be held up to PMA/CPR scrutiny I reckon ….
