Rightmove to review agent’s listings after removing raffle property

A listing on Rightmove promoting a private owner’s raffle for a castle has been removed.

The listing, which had a price of £2.7m, was put up by Sussex-based Get An Offer, which describes itself as an online quick sale estate agent working on a no sale, no fee basis.

Rightmove told us it will also be reviewing all Get An Offer’s other listings, while the agency itself has also launched its own investigation.

The reader who drew our attention to the firm’s listings calculated that at the weekend 64% of Get An Offer’s total inventory listed on Rightmove had been price-reduced. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=BRANCH%5E48375&sortType=6&includeSSTC=true

On Zoopla at the weekend, there were fewer price reductions by Get An Offer, with some 26 of the properties showing as having been reduced – about a quarter of the agent’s 104-strong inventory.

Some of the price changes appeared to show not only reductions but increases.

For example, as the first Zoopla screengrab shows, the property was listed on February 16 at £85,000. On June 21, it was reduced by 11.8% to £75,000. On September 29, the price went back up to £85,000.

The property in the second screengrab was first marketed at £400,000 in July. Its price was increased to £410,000 in early September, but then briefly cut to £390,000 and then shortly afterwards listed at £425,000.

A spokesperson for Rightmove said of the castle raffle listing: “We don’t allow competitions so we have removed it.”

Price reductions of more than 3% trigger a ‘property alert’ from Rightmove, effectively pushing the property up to the top of a search.

The same castle raffle listing appears on Zoopla. According to Zoopla the property was first listed on May 15, 2015, and we have asked Zoopla for comment about both this listing and the other homes that Get An Offer is marketing.

Get An Offer’s boss is Tom Cranenburgh, previously a senior sales consultant with Cubitt and West, and before that Fox and Sons.

Replying for Get An Offer, director Jonathan Rolande told EYE at the weekend that the firm is investigating what has happened.
