Tenants’ passport firm sails £100,000 over crowdfunding target

A start-up offering “tenants’ passports” has completed its crowdfunding at £100,000 over target.

Movem had initially aimed to raise £300,000.

Founder Peter Ramsey said that the Movem Passport is now being used in agencies, and also announced that insurers Endsleigh will accept the product.

A spokesperson for Endsleigh – which itself is quitting the tenancy referencing market – said: “Going forward, Endsleigh will be able to accept a Movem Passport across all our rent guarantee and rent indemnity insurance policies.

“This is a significant change for Endsleigh as previously we have only accepted a comprehensive reference which includes both landlords and employee checks, and underlines the confidence that we have in the Movem product.

“As one of the UK’s leading landlord insurance providers, Endsleigh actively supports initiatives that raise standards and transparency in the sector.

“Speeding up the referencing process and improving the quality of data is critical for both landlords and tenants.

“Movem’s proposition is truly innovative in this regard, and we look forward to working with them to develop their proposition in the future.”

With the passports, tenants can create their profiles, review their experiences of landlords, agents and properties, and build up a rental profile including a tenant reference.

Landlords and agents can view a summary for free, but pay to download the full pdf. Landlords and agents can also leave reviews of tenants.

The business has been created largely in response to the impending fees ban, while founder Ramsey dropped out of university to work on the business, such has been his belief in it.

In the New Year, it will be advertising on Sky’s property channel. The ad is here:

An absolute waste of money – I’ll give them 3 years at the most.
