What do you get when you market a home on Facebook? 180,000 views and interest from two!

For those of you who missed the One Show yesterday evening because you were busy showing someone round a property at the end of a long day . . . well this one’s for you.

Shanty Helim, a vendor with online agent House Simple, was the star of her particular show.

The hit programme showed her doing a live Facebook viewing of her home in Rainham Essex, in – and we quote – a bid to cut “the cost of sky-high estate agent fees”.

The charming Shanty hosted the viewing on Facebook Live with offers made through the Facebook Messenger app.

Her tour of the three-bed semi allowed viewers to ask questions, and on last night’s One Show, one of the questions asked during the viewing whether her neighbours were all right. Apparently, they are.

The viewing covered by the One Show took place a week ago, on June 22, with the reporter saying he had previously been a cynic as to how it would work.

However, the live-stream viewing itself attracted some 22,000 watchers.

A week later, there are 180,000 views and two interested parties, the One Show reported. It was not made clear whether these are actual offers or people who might be interested in seeing the three-bedroom home for themselves.

Presenter Alex Jones said she was thrilled to have seen inside Shanty’s home and observed that virtual home viewing is quite a hobby for some.

But whichever way you look at it, it’s quite brilliant PR for House Simple.

What this actually shows is how incredibly effective High Street agents are when they generate multiple ACTUAL viewings in the first 10 days and achieve a sale. I would like to see how effective that excel use would have been on the properties that we see Oatley which aren’t immaculate and don’t have quite such ‘charming’ owners. I also wonder how good she will be at chasing her buyers’ chain/mortgage broker/conveyancing sausage factory when she is 12 weeks into her sale and doesn’t know why she can’t exchange contracts.

Please do a follow up show three months from now and see if she has moved. And that’s one of the more capable, tech savvy, charming and bright house owners.

180,000 views and only two interested parties. What an awesome conversion rate………………….

Surely further evidence that this type of thing is completely ineffective?
