Zoopla founder Alex Chesterman named as one of Britain’s top 100 entrepreneurs

Alex Chesterman has been named among Britain’s top entrepreneurs in the Maserati 100, published in yesterday’s Sunday Times.

The listing specifically includes those who are challenging established players and disrupting their respective industries.

No online agents have made the cut, but the citation for the Zoopla boss says: “Chesterman has shaken out two long-established industries – and minted two fortunes.

“In 2011 he made several million pounds when Amazon splashed out £200m on Lovefilm, the move rental service he had helped found nine years before.

“The 47-year-old created Zoopla in 2008 as a competitor to Rightmove, then Britain’s dominant property website.

“Zoopla floated in 2014 with a valuation of nearly £1bn.”

Also in the Maserati 100 are Ishaan Malhi, founder of online mortgage broker Trussle, which is backed by ZPG, and William Reeve, who was also behind Lovefilm and who put his earnings from its sale into the next generation of entrepreneurs, including Zoopla.
