A three-bed for just 18 Bitcoins! Seller snubs agents to sell his own property using cryptocurrency

A seller is offering his unusual home for sale – in return for Bitcoin. The deal bypasses estate agents and ignores the usual advice about neutral decor.

There have already been lettings agents taking rent in the form of the digital currency as well as a London developer only taking Bitcoin as payment for their latest project.

But now, Sean Atkinson is offering his three-bedroom property in Grimsby for sale privately,  for just £100 plus 18 Bitcoins.

That equates to just over £82,000, but given the volatility of the currency – which operates separately to the traditional banking system – it could be worth either a lot more or less by the time you read this article.

Atkinson has said he will also take offers in traditional cash starting at £80,000.

According to Rightmove, sold prices on the street have ranged from £54,950 up to £217,000.

The rooms are filled with his and others’ art and he offers floorplans and a 360-degree tour on his website.

Atkinson said buyers would be able to conduct a survey of the property first and he will also be uploading an energy performance certificate.

He is planning to paint over the wall art and aims to put in new carpets.

Atkinson had the idea after deciding he couldn’t afford estate agent fees so turned to the WordPress blogging website.

He said: “The internet has changed everything, including how to sell a house.

“I thought, what if I could sell and advertise my house sale myself. I didn’t have the money to pay an agent and had a bit of an idea how to use WordPress.”

Ok, firstly that picture gives me a headache.

Also, what the heck are Bitcoins? Is it Facebook money or something ridiculous like that?

It’s a crypto currency that may or may not be worth anything depending on the day of the week
