Agent helps the vulnerable to smarten up to get back into the workplace

Chestertons agents have followed up the brand’s annual winter coat collection campaign with a new initiative for the vulnerable, unemployed or those on low incomes.

Rather than collecting coats in its branches, the agency teamed up with two London charities over the summer, Suited and Booted and Dress for Success, to help collect suitable work attire for men and women.

More than 400 items of clothing were collected, and staff also helped measure, iron and steam garments so they were ready to wear.

Emlyn Parks, sales manager at Chestertons’ Camden office, said: “I really enjoyed my time volunteering at Suited and Booted.

“I spent a very enjoyable three hours along with a few of my colleagues helping to sort out the numerous donations they receive on a daily basis. It’s such a great cause that really makes a difference to people that need a bit of help getting back into the workplace. It was a very positive experience.”

Maria Lenn, chief executive of Suited & Booted, added: “Suited and Booted is immensely grateful to Chestertons for its summer suit drive and the help provided by the Chestertons team of volunteers.

“This tremendous support gives our vulnerable clients a real helping hand as they try to get into the world of work.”

Well done Chestertons, Suited and Booted and Dress for Success.
That’s a much better way of recycling clothes than giving them to Shelter.  92.5% of the takings of Shelter shops go to pay the shops’ staff and “other shop costs”, leaving 7.5 pence in the pound to go towards campaigning against landlords to drive them out of the PRS and increase homelessness.
