Agent tells of his relief after police drop two-year investigation

An agent who was the subject of a two-year fraud investigation has spoken of his relief that police have dropped the case.

Scott Bernstein, 34, of Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, found himself the subject of a probe after money went missing from Daniel Scott, the agency he set up.

In 2013, Hertfordshire Constabulary told Bernstein they were looking into allegations of theft from the agency.

Throughout the following two years, his family were bombarded with calls and visits from unhappy former clients who claimed they had been left out of pocket, with one even turning up at his daughter’s birthday party.

Investigation into the claims – always denied by Bernstein – put huge strains on his family life, with his wife telling the local paper: “I lost a lot of friends who assumed Scott was guilty. I thought my husband could end up in prison. It was awful.”

Bernstein, whose own firm closed in 2013, has now started working for local firm Reece Residential and says the future is looking up.

He said: “The relief we felt when my name was cleared was amazing. I just wanted to shout it out to the whole world.

“I want to stop the rumour mills from turning, and my family and I want to move on with our life.”

In a statement, police said: “I can confirm that no further action is being taken against Mr Bernstein and no other arrests or charges have been made in relation to this case.”

Glad it’s ended favourably for the family, must of been an awful time. Hope they can put it all behind them and move forward.
