Fancy having a whale of a time? Then let’s Do It For Dom

Simon Whale launches this year’s Do it for Dom event – and if you’d like to make sure of taking part, sign up to the great canoe challenge today

Last year Suzanna Mavity and I organised the Do It For Dom campaign, for our friend Dominic Subbiani of FBM Estate Agents.

This is a fantastic agency in Wales which for years has been an absolute stalwart in organisations like RAN and Fine & Country.

You might remember that I detailed last year how he’d been struck down with Huntington’s, a hideous degenerative disease, at the moment with no cure although there is some hope on the horizon.

Well, after last year’s huge success with 50 people climbing Snowdon and managing to raise around £72,000 in total, we’ve decided to do similar this year with a canoe ride along the river Wye covering 26 miles.

Joining us will be some of the best known names from within the industry  taking part – but we’d like more!

Participants currently include: Peter Knight, Sarah Kemp, Simon Woodcock, Miles Shipside, Peter Lawrence, Mark Manning, Graham Wilson, Ajay Pattni, Jazz Lall,  Andy Solomon, Ben Ridgway, Bill Campbell, Amy Hansen, Dan Morgan, David Mintz, Debbie Davies, Ian Stratford, Joe Robinson, Louise Jefferies, Mark Bevan, Mark Harrison, Ben Childs, Nathan Emerson, Ricky Purdy and Simon Bradbury.

All of this is happening under the Agents Giving banner to ensure this industry gets the maximum profile for all the great work it does in this sort of area.

With over £1m being raised last year for Agents Giving, hopefully we can start to make the wider public realise that we’re far more part of their local communities than many other businesses.

Dom has been fighting the disease with customary Welsh grit, and although he’s had to make some adjustments, still runs his business day to day with a bravery that impresses everyone who knows him.

Like last year he will be undertaking the challenge itself and I’m sure just as with the Snowdon climb he will beat me to the finishing line with hours to spare.

This year Glyn Trott of LetMc has challenged me to a ‘swim off’ at some stage of the river. “Don’t Save the Whale” merchandise is expected to sell out fast.

Backing has again been fantastic. Within seconds of announcing this year’s challenge we got corporate sponsorship from the ESTAS and the Guild, with Simon and Sarah Brown, Iain from the Guild and Jon Cooke and David Lindley from F&C also taking part in the canoe ride.

So if you fancy taking part in the two-day canoe ride starting on September 4, or sponsoring, with TeePee tent accommodation, all washed down with a couple of ciders, then please drop me a line at Simon@Kerfuffle.it or find us at  https://www.facebook.com/events/391850784989285/

However, here is the important news: today is the deadline for guaranteed entry, otherwise it becomes first come first served.

Entering will cost you £125 and you need to raise £300 for the charity, which should be child’s play for an industry that prides itself on negotiation!

Or if you could just spare whatever you can, please give to this great cause www.justgiving.com/Do-It-For-Dom-2019

In the words of Chief Brody in the film Jaws: “We’re gonna’ need a bigger boat.”

Can I just make some last minute thank you’s as there was a flurry of people signing up yesterday:

First of all a thank you to Scott and the Drivers & Norris team, at least six have signed up and hope to raise 3k between them. They’ve really taken DIFD to their hearts after massively backing it last year simply after a chance encounter at one of the conferences. It’s that kindness to strangers that’s utterly humbling.

Also Marcus and Paul from the Guild build their numbers.

Ricky Purdey and Chris Hope from Dawson’s , Nick from Moginie James complete the Welsh mafia.

Sean Newman, Jez Lee , Jon Handford, Ish Lee from Prospect Engine , Ryan Woolfenden and potentially the most interesting of all Kristjan Byfield, a Viking in a boating expedition, what could possibly go wrong ?

thanks again all and if I’ve missed anyone apologies. Off to get my water wings
