Letting agent says he will sue BBC after Rogue Traders programme

A letting agent featured on the BBC programme Watchdog’s Rogue Traders section says he will sue the BBC.

John Sanderson and the directors of One Stop Student Property Rentals, in Lancaster, have told their local paper that they are preparing to sue for defamation and loss of earnings.

Sanderson strongly denies allegations that he withheld rent from landlords as director of Lancaster Property Network Management (LPNM) which went into liquidation in September.

However, a spokesperson for the BBC said: “This is the first we have heard about legal proceedings and we have not received any communications from Mr Sanderson or his solicitors since the programme aired.

“Rogue Traders fully stand by their comprehensive investigation into John Sanderson and LPNM.”

I think Watchdog might rely a bit too heavily on experts who don’t know an awful lot.  They managed to get Nigel Havers company let of a flat in Manchester confused with an Assured shorthold tenancy and then made a whole song and dance about the rogue agent, who turned out not to be an agent at all.

All correspondence with the BBC seems to be ignored so it doesn’t surprise me it is the fist they have heard of the matter

To be fair Robert, not sure if you saw the report / program but he was in effect a phoenix company.

Ran up debts, Did not pay all the rent received to the landlords or utilities providers for the tenants. Company went into receivership and yes company has a new director but he is still there and so are all the assests and the property portfolio. Only thing really changed is no debts.

No doubt the BBC get a lot wrong but not in the case of this chap.
