Monthly house price growth falls despite report to the contrary

House prices have not moved over the last month, apparently inching up just 0.1%.

Or did they?

Despite the tiny rise in August, the latest house price index from Halifax claims that average prices pulled off the extraordinary feat of growing 3.7% annually, up from 3.3% in July.

However, the curious latest report from Halifax puts August average house prices at £229,958 – which is actually lower than the £230,280 Halifax reported in July.

Baffling.
