Rental values on new tenancies began 2018 with a year-on-year increase, rising in nearly every region of the UK.

Figures from HomeLet showed a 2.4% rise in rents for the UK as a whole in January 2018 compared to the same month a year before.

The average monthly rent now stands at £909 a month.

Rents in London increased by 2.3% during the month, with the average monthly rent in the capital now at £1,532 a month.

When London is excluded, the average UK rental value was £760 in January 2018, also up 2.3% on a year ago.

Homelet, which is owned by the Barbon Insurance Group and gathers data from its tenant referencing services, said rents rose in 11 of the 12 regions of the UK.
