Presidents’ Club hostesses were more like ‘Brenda from reception’, says estate agent

An estate agent has reignited the row over the notorious Presidents’ Club dinners, saying that its hostesses were not so much ‘scantily clad’ Pamela Andersons – but more ‘Brenda from reception’.

Trevor Abrahmsohn – who has attended several of the dinners in the past, although not the latest one – also said the hostesses’ dress code was like something out of the Women’s Institute.

Abrahmsohn, who is managing director of north London firm Glentree International, has put his thoughts in a blog called ‘The tragedy of the Presidents’ Club: who are the real victims?’

In it, he says the events were serious and responsible fundraising exercises.

The 130 hostesses were ordered to wear black dresses and “sexy shoes”.

But Abrahmsohn said: “I have to tell you that contrary to the celluloidal image painted by the press, these so-called hostesses are hardly scantily-clad Pamela Anderson lookalikes, but more Brenda from reception.”

And he said of the dress code it was more like “something worn at a Women’s Institute convention than a pole-dancing club”.

He added: “When I was there, invariably some of the hostesses seemed rather bored by it all and were hardly the victims of drunk, hyper-testosteroned male guests with wandering hands disease.”

The Presidents’ Club is now defunct following an expose by a national newspaper last month, with money it raised for good causes being returned, for example by Great Ormond Street Hospital. A number of the great and good of the property world attended, with the events organised by Bruce Ritchie of Residential Land.

The tone of this seems to suggest that these women weren’t worth groping…. very poor taste

I do think it’s a shame that all the donations were returned, as people didn’t want to be associated with the Presidents Club.

I’m not saying that these goings on were acceptable, far from it, and I’m not upset that they seem to have been disbanded, but the money they raised did do a lot of good. GOSH and the rest of the charities needed that money, and having it withdrawn will impact on the services they offer.

But yes, this guy is an idiot. It doesn’t matter what they looked like, many of them probably took the job to earn an income, the same as I am doing. Does that mean that when I go out to do a valuation or viewing or whatever that clients should be able to touch me? H£ll no! I have a friend who is a dancer and club promoter, but that doesn’t mean any of the patrons have the right to lay a finger on her.
