Top management team at Badger quits as Nick Dunning steps in as interim CEO

The long-standing top management team at Badger Holdings have all quit, months after the business was acquired by Nick Dunning Associates.

None of the three had, as of yesterday, updated their LinkedIn profiles.

Nick Dunning himself has become interim CEO.

Group chief executive Seamus Kavanagh had been at Townends, part of what is now Badger Holdings, since launch in 1995 and sped up the ranks, landing the top job in 2012.

His wife Caroline Kavanagh was at the company for 19 years. She was managing director of Townends Lettings and Management, and head of residential at Badger.

Janet Tully was group HR director, a position she had held for over 21 years.

The business now known as Badger Holdings was founded by Tony Addinall in 1995 and has 26 offices in Surrey, Middlesex and London.

In February, it was announced that Nick Dunning Associates had bought the business for an undisclosed sum – the first of what is intended to be a large number of purchases.

The company, which says it will be making 20 purchases of lettings-focused business a year for the next five years, is led by former Countrywide commercial director Nick Dunning, with a team of other ex-Countrywide seniors.

Yesterday, the departures of Badger’s top trio was confirmed.

A spokesperson for Nick Dunning Associates said: “Seamus Kavanagh, Caroline Kavanagh and Janet Tully were shareholders in the Badger Holdings Group.

“Having worked so hard over recent years, they decided to take a well-earned career break and enjoy some time off over the summer.

“We thank them for their hard work and dedication, and wish them well for the future. The way they have developed and grown the Badger Holdings Group over the past 20 years is remarkable.

“Nick Dunning has taken up the position of CEO in the interim.”

The end of an era, Seamus and Caroline were instrumental in paving the way for my career in estate agency. The immortal words “it’s not about doing anything wrong but have you done everything right” still guide me in my decision making today.

Seamus has been responsible for a cracking business built by Tony A . Rumour has it that he is off to Countywide to add to the amazing job done by Alison. !!! Tee hee …

I worked for this company for a short period 5 years ago. It doesn’t surprise me that the previous directors have all gone, sure that the new owners very quickly realised the old CEO had no idea and had little experience running a multi office operation. Some good people worked there in the branches but most felt the senior team were clueless and didn’t understand what estate agency was all about. Sure the company will flourish under the new regime.

I think it was more a case of an ‘assertive push’ rather than a collective ‘quitting’ !!!!

Although I’m sure they wanted to keep some dignity, so handing in their notice/quitting gives them that, to some degree!

Can’t say it’s a surprise to most, I worked there previously and inevitably it was only a matter of time before Nick witnessed and realised the absolute ridiculous and pointless processes that the three had put into place over the years, ones that hundreds of employees had to deal with and go along with despite knowing how pointless and time consuming they were, and to not actually make much of a difference in the long run!  Not to mention the copious amounts of AMAZING employees they lost because people felt the Senior Management Team were beyond a joke and uncompromising.

Let’s hope with those 3 gone the other employees who DO actually embrace change can progress and not be held back because they were not a chosen ‘favourite’ of the named 3.

As I understand it… “Good luck but good riddance!” is the more accurate and relevant phrase encompassing this recent update… apparently.
