Tragedy as estate agent dies on honeymoon

Sarah Greaves & Jeremy Hope

An estate agent who married his business partner exactly a week ago has died after an accident while on honeymoon.

Jeremy Hope, 39, married Sarah Greaves, 31, before family and friends on the Greek island of Santorini last Monday. The pair together ran Saxon Kings in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey.

Two days after their wedding, Mr Hope was jet skiing with a friend, Peter Hudson, who had been at the ceremony.

There was a collision, after which Mr Hope went back to the beach to sunbathe with his new bride.

He then realised the extent of his injuries and, with internal bleeding suspected, he was airlifted to hospital in Crete.

However, Mr Hope died on board the helicopter from head and chest injuries.

Peter Hudson, who it is thought may also have an estate agency background, was subsequently arrested.

Saxon Kings

Saxon Kings began as an online agent in 2006 but, according to its website, found there was a demand from customers to have somewhere they could pop into for a cup of coffee and a face to face discussion.

It opened its smart Kingston-on-Thames office in November 2012.

Sarah, who has moved from becoming a new bride to a widow in a very brief space of time, is a member of ARLA.

Her father Robert said: “We are devastated. Sarah is in Crete with her sister and is in no state to deal with anything. We mourn the loss of our son-in-law and share Sarah’s grief.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the death of a British National in Greece on 17th September.

“We are providing consular assistance to his family at this sad time. We are aware of the arrest of a British national in Greece and are providing consular assistance.”

* Meanwhile, the website of Mark Davey, the Luton agent whose death we reported last week in a car crash aged 33, has now received donations totalling more than £48,000.

Mark set up the website last year to raise funds for Starlight, the charity that helps brighten the lives of terminally ill children in hospitals and hospices.

Aged 11, he had himself benefited from Starlight when he was fighting non Hodgkin Lymphoma.

He had set himself a target of raising £30,000 which has now been far exceeded as donations and tributes have poured in.
